About
Established in 1997 in Riga, Latvia, the International School of Riga is an independent, not for profit school that offers an international education from Toddlers to Grade 12 for 305 students representing more than 47 nationalities. The school is located on two campuses, both centrally located within the city, making it Riga’s most centrally located international school.
Location
The ISR Primary School campus, Kalnciema 118, is located in the historic Pārdaugava neighbourhood, in the 1912 heritage schoolhouse designed by renowned Latvian architect Reinholds Georgs Šmēlings.
The Secondary Campus, Vesetas 9, is located in the heart of Riga’s Central district and steps away from the Rimi Olympic Centre, Riga’s world class sporting facility, where ISR students also undertake physical education. This location means the school is a short drive or walk for students living in Riga or nearby suburbs.
Organization
The ISR Board of Directors, is elected by the members of the International School of Riga in an Annual General Meeting. ISR is registered in the Latvian Registry of Associations. Membership is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of the students enrolled in the school. The School Director and leadership team manage the daily operation of the school.
Curriculum
The International School of Riga is an International Baccalaureate World School and Cambridge International Centre. Primary school students, preschool through grade 5, follow the IB Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). Middle school students, grades 6 to 9, study using the IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP)*. Cambridge IGCSE is offered in grade 10, and the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is for grades 11-12. This means an ISR education is fully transferable around the world and highly regarded by universities internationally. Instruction is in English and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is offered to those students requiring it. Students who do not need additional English language support can also study foreign languages including French, Latvian or Spanish. ISR has a fully certified international teaching staff including specialist teachers for languages, physical education, art, music, and IT. A rich and extensive extra-curricular programme, including sporting, academic and creative activities, is available to all students, most of which is included in the cost of tuition.

Faculty and Staff
ISR’s teachers are native or fluent users of English. ISR recruits the best teachers from within Latvia and around the world. Faculty and staff teach in a facility with a growing Library Media Centre, and open, bright classrooms with outstanding areas for extra-curricular and sports activities.
