Founded in 2001, ISR provides an internationally accredited education in English to students aged 2-18. The Riga campus presently serves Toddlers through Grade 12.
ISR is located on Kipsala Island just minutes from central Riga and historic Old Town Riga. This location means the school is a short drive or walk for students living in Riga or nearby suburbs.
The ISR Board of Directors, is elected by the members of the International School of Riga in an Annual General Meeting. ISR is resistered in the Latvian Registry of Associations. Membership is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of the students enrolled in the school. The School Director and leadership team manage the daily operation of the school.
The International School of Riga is an International Baccalaureate World School and Cambridge International Centre. Primary school students study using the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). Middle school students grades six to eight study using the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). Instruction is in English, and French and Latvian language are offered to students from Grades 1 through 6. High school students study two programs - Grades 9 and 10 the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Grades 11 and 12 Cambridge Advanced Level (A Level). English as a Second Language classes are offered to students whose native tongue is not English and need additional English support. ISR has a fully certified international teaching staff including specialist teachers for languages, physcial education-swimming, art, music, IT. ISR has a rich and extensive extra-curricular programme including sporting, academic and creative activities.
Faculty and Staff
ISR's teachers are native or fluent users of English. ISR recruits the best teachers from within Latvia and around the world. Faculty and staff teach in a modern facility with a growing Library Media Centre, and open, bright classrooms with outstanding areas for extra-curricular and sports activities.
Enrollment is currently almost 300 students, representing approximately 40 nationalities.
ISR completed an annex to its original facility in 2004, adding a state of the art gymnaisum and three floors of well appointed classrooms. The facility includes a lunch area, Library Media Centre, music and art rooms and parents lounge. The grounds include a full children’s playground and sports field. ISR also provides swim instruction at the adjacent Kipsala Pool complex.
